To me, flowers are probably the most beautiful thing on Earth, a painting subject that will never ever get old. If I would have to paint flowers, waterfalls, and color keys for the rest of my life, I would probably never get bored.
On that note, here are three iterations of a study, executed in three different techniques, searching for the looks of oil, watercolor, and something more abstract. With enough curiosity and exploration, it is unbelievable what you can achieve in terms of a traditional look with apps like Rebelle and others, even with Photoshop and the Mixer Brush (though Photoshop never shares the same feel as traditional). I am curious, if you have seen the pictures before reading this, at first glance, did they appear digital? They could've fooled me. It is this traditional look that makes me never want to stop painting, so I cannot wait for tools to keep getting better and better!
The studies are posted in the order they were made, which is also important, because tackling the same piece for the third, fourth, fifth time and so on, will give you familiarity with the subject, you will gain confidence, therefore you will get looser, will be able to simplify more to get to the essence of the subject, and your paintings will intrinsically look better, I believe.
So what do you think? Which one is your favorite?
